That night, Flio came home late from a meeting in the city and went into the living room to sit in his favorite chair.

“I see...” he said when Rys finished giving him the news of the day. “So Miss Swann’s over there right now, is she?”

“Yes,” said Rys, smirking wryly as she placed a cup down in front of Flio. “I actually prepared a guest room for her since she’s here on work this time, but she insisted on her usual sleeping arrangements...”

The two looked over at Sybe and his family’s cot in the corner of the living room, where the two large bears slept side by side, just about filling out the cot with their girth—Sybe the psychobear, and Tybe the Bear of Misfortune. There, cuddled up beside Rylnàsze, Swann lay fast asleep on top of Sybe’s fluffy belly. She was snoring quietly, clearly exhausted as the two girls slept in each others’ arms.

Back in Klyrode Castle, Swann had been suffering from insomnia, headaches, and stiff shoulders due to her workload. Now, however, she looked perfectly relaxed lying down face-to-face with Rylnàsze. It was clear at a glance that she was finally enjoying a night of sound sleep.

Flio smiled his usual easygoing smile. “Well, if Swann’s all right with it, I’d say it’s not a problem.”

“True enough,” Rys chuckled. “Rylnàsze and the magic beasts seem more than happy to have her, as well.”

As Rys had said, Shebe the unicorn rabbit and her children were lying in a circle around Rylnàsze and Swann, all snoring happily cuddled up next to the two girls.

Ah... Swann thought, as she savored her first night of good sleep in a long while. I’m so happy...

◇The Following Morning—Houghtow College of Magic◇

In a classroom in the Houghtow College of Magic, the morning meeting was underway. Belano stood at the podium in front of the class, with two new transfer students standing beside her. “Would the two of you please introduce yourselves...?” she said.

“Of course!” said Shiana, cheerful as ever. “My name is Shiana. I just moved here from the kingdom of Indol. It’s nice to meet all of you!”

“I am Thelmi, Mistress Shiana’s maid...” said Thelmi. “A pleasure...” Like before she seemed distinctly tense, her expression strained and rigid as she forced out the words.

“Now, your seats...” Belano said. “They’re right over there, in the back row...”

Shiana and Thelmi went to the seats Belano had indicated at the back of the room. “Hi! Nice to meet you!” Rylnàsze said as they sat down, giving the pair a great big smile from the seat next to Shiana’s. “I’m Rylnàsze! Since we’re in the same class, let’s be friends!”

“I’m Shiana,” Shiana said, smiling back as she introduced herself. “And this is my maid Thelmi. Well, she’s my maid officially, but really she’s more like my sister. I hope you’ll be friends with her, as well!”

I’d heard the Houghtow College of Magic had a high-level curriculum, but I can’t say anyone in this class looks like they have all that much magic power.
